Artificial Intelligence (AI), in its broadest sense, refers to the ability—or the attempt—of an artificial system, typically a computer system, to simulate human intelligence. This field plays a crucial role in our modern society, and its importance is continuously growing.

For decades, the concept of artificial intelligence has captivated our imagination. Today, AI is no longer just a concept; it is a reality. In this article, we will discuss Joule, SAP's new generative AI assistant.

SAP has introduced Joule, its natural language assistant powered by generative AI. The assistant will be integrated throughout SAP's cloud enterprise portfolio and will offer proactive, contextualized insights from both internal and external sources.

THE IMPACT OF JOULE

Joule represents a significant step forward in the use of artificial intelligence. "With nearly 300 million business users worldwide working regularly with SAP cloud solutions, Joule has the potential to redefine the way companies—and the people driving them—work," comments Christian Klein, CEO and member of the Executive Board of SAP SE. "Joule builds on SAP's unique position at the intersection of business and technology and is based on a relevant, reliable, and responsible approach to AI for Business. Joule will understand what you mean, not just what you say."

Key points about Joule:

  1. Advanced Artificial Intelligence: Joule has been developed to fully understand the business world. It quickly organizes and contextualizes data from multiple systems, enabling people to work faster and improve business outcomes in a secure and compliant way.

  2. Natural Language Understanding (NLU): Joule uses advanced NLU capabilities to understand and process natural language queries, allowing for continuous interaction with users.

  3. Insight Generation: Leveraging data analytics and predictive modeling capabilities, Joule generates insights to support decision-making processes. Whether it's identifying trends, predicting future outcomes, or highlighting areas for improvement, Joule provides users with valuable information to make informed decisions.

  4. Full Integration: Joule will be integrated across all SAP applications, from HR to finance, supply chain, procurement, and customer experience, as well as the SAP Business Technology Platform.

  5. Intelligent Support: Imagine always having the support of the smartest colleague. People will be able to ask simple questions or frame problems to be solved in clear language and receive intelligent answers derived from the wealth of business data, texts, images, and insights from across the entire SAP portfolio and third-party sources.

  6. Continuous Scenarios: Joule will continually provide new scenarios for all SAP solutions. For example, in HR, it will help write impartial job descriptions and generate relevant interview questions.

With the introduction of Joule, the prospects for artificial intelligence in the ERP field become even more exciting. Starting in November this year, Joule will be available with SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Start.
